Exchange Traded Funds

Lower Costs

Because ETFs are based on indexed portfolios that are not "actively" managed, they are less likely to experience high management fees. ETFs have some of the lowest expenses of any registered investment product. Expenses of a fund can have a significant impact on the returns for long term investors. Of course, just like common stock, purchases or sales of ETFs are subject to the usual brokerage commissions.

Tax Efficiencies

ETFs, like index funds in general, tend to offer greater tax benefits because they typically generate fewer capital gains due to lower portfolio turnover. Exchange trading of ETFs further enhances their tax efficiency. Investors who want to liquidate shares in an ETF simply sell them to other investors through exchange trading, thus not requiring the fund to sell stocks and generate capital gains tax liability.

Transparency

With ETFs you know what you are getting! The holdings of an ETF are designed to generally correspond to the performance and yield of its underlying index, the components of which are disclosed.

Diversification

You'll find a large universe of ETFs trading in the marketplace---over 300 in all. They can offer you a broadly based market portfolio of U.S. and/or international stocks as a long term investment or allow you to make targeted investments in a variety of asset classes, sectors and countries. This provides a level of diversification that would otherwise be difficult and costly to attain if you purchase individual stocks.

Ease of Trading

Because they are exchange traded, ETF's can be:

    - Bought and Sold intraday

                 - Purchased on margin
                 - Sold Short
                 - Use of "Stop Orders"

                 - Use of "Limit Orders"

Rebalancing

You can adjust your ETF positions at any time throughout the trading day, without short term restrictions or redemption fees. Again, usual brokerage commissions will apply.

Rollover Stock Cycles

For aggressive investors we provide time sensitive information concerning which stocks to buy and sell. Investment Research Clients can participate in either the 6 stocks / month or the 12 stocks / month rollover program.  Aggressive investors who are Portfolio Management Clients may participate in the ETF/Stock Rotation program.
